All reporting individuals shall annually file with the proper filing officer (Secretary of State) a report of expenditures and contributions on a prescribed form. Secretary of State Meets with Spanish Royalty

Secretary of State Mary Herrera met with Prince Felipe of Spain and his wife, Princess Letizia during their visit celebrating Santa Fe’s 4ooth anniversary. Secretary of State Herrera presented the Prince and Princess with copies of the New Mexico Blue Book which includes historical data from the arrival of the first Spaniards.

The day’s ceremonies included a visit to the New Mexico History Museum, viewing of the exhibit “Tesoros de Devocion,” and a gathering at the Basilica Cathedral de St. Francis of Assisi.

“It was truly an honor to meet and visit with the Prince and Princess,” said Secretary of State Herrera. “New Mexico has enjoyed a lasting relationship with Spain. This is a relationship that will continue for many years to come.”

Governor Bill Richardson Announces Confidential Driver’s License Address Program

Governor Bill Richardson Announces Confidential Driver’s License Address Program Participants in the program may use a substitute address on their New Mexico MVD driver’s licenses, ID cards, or permits. This eliminates the possibility of their abusers to track down their location using public records.

“The Confidential Driver’s License Address Program is another example of New Mexico’s commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence,” said Secretary of State Mary Herrera. "I thank Governor Bill Richardson, First Lady Barbara Richardson, and Mike Sandoval for their hard work in making this program a reality.”

“The Confidential Driver’s License Address Program is yet another tool victims of domestic violence and sexual assault can use to protect themselves from their abusers,” Governor Richardson said. “The objective of this program is to prevent abusers from tracking their victims, to feel safe and secure in their surroundings, and to restore a sense of normalcy in their lives.” Please contact the New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office for more information at (505) 827-3600

Secretary of State Recognizes Historical Recording Studio

The Norman Petty Recording Studio, located in Clovis, New Mexico, was featured in the most recent edition of the state’s Blue Book.

Norman Petty Recording Studio, Clovis, NM.Secretary of State Mary Herrera presented a signed copy of the Blue Book to Kenneth and Shirley Broad, caretakers of the recording studio. She thanked them for their 25 years of tireless dedication to preservation and maintenance of the studio, which they have been doing since Petty’s death in 1984.

Founded by Norman Petty in the early fifties, the studio became a springboard for some who would eventually gain national fame, such as Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Buddy Knox, The Fireballs, and Norman himself.

The Norman Petty Trio consisted of Norman, his wife Vi Petty, and guitar player Jack Vaughn. Their biggest hit, "Moon Indigo,” had sales of over a half million by 1956.   

Norman Petty Recording Studio, Clovis, NM.Holly recorded some of his biggest hits there, including That’ll be the Day, Peggy Sue, It’s so Easy, and Think it Over. Norman and Vi were featured on several of Buddy’s hits.

Ken and Shirley were recognized recently at the Clovis Music Festival by representatives of the “Rock and Roll” Hall of Fame for their preservation and safeguarding of the Norman Petty Recording Studio and the world famous “Clovis Sound.”

 





2010 Campaign Season Officially Under Way


.The campaign season began as candidates started collecting nominating signatures on October 1, 2009. Nominating petitions may be turned in at the Secretary of State’s Office, and are due by February 9, 2010 (Candidate Filing Day).
“I encourage candidates to call our office if they have any questions regarding campaign related issues, stated Secretary of State Mary Herrera. We are available to assist you with any campaign questions.”

Below is a list of important campaign-related dates:  

Important Dates for the Upcoming Primary Election:
February 9, 2010 - Filing Day for Pre-Primary Convention Designation for any statewide or federal office, or for the office of U.S. Representative. Nominating   petitions are due on this date.
March 9, 2010 – Filing Day for Write-in Candidates for the Primary Election.
March 16, 2010 – Filing Day for all other offices
March 26, 2010 – Deadline for Challenging Nominating Petitions
April 6, 2010 Deadline for Candidate Withdrawal
April 12, 2010 - First Campaign Finance Reports Due
May 4, 2010 – Absentee Voting Begins and Voter Registration for Primary Closes
May 10, 2010 - Second Campaign Finance Reports Due
May 15, 2010 – Early In-Person Voting for Primary Election Begins
May 27, 2010 - Third Campaign Finance Reports Due
May 29, 2010 – Early In-Person Voting ends
June 1, 2010 - Primary Election Day
July 1, 2010- Fourth Campaign Finance Reports due
